Finding the Right Chemical Balance

When discussing the chemical balance of your Kayak above ground swimming pool, it is important to look at the pH level, as well as the total Alkalinity levels of your swimming pool to make sure you are maintaining a balanced environment.

pH

pH measures the acidic qualities of the water. a pH scale ranges from 0-14 with 7 being neutral.  Under 7 equals acidic water. Above 7 equals alkaline. Everything in the pool has a different pH level.  Adjust your water by adding bases or pH acids to obtain a water acidity between 7.2-7.8.

Test the water daily to maintain a healthy pool. Water with a low or high pH can weaken vinyl walls of a pool and cause other major problems.

Total Alkalinity

Similar to pH, your pool should maintain a healthy level of alkalinity. Alkalinity helps keep the pH from constant change and fluctuation.

Alkalinity should be maintained in the 80-120ppm range for concrete swimming pools and 125-170ppm for painted, vinyl, and fiberglass pools. The alkalinity levels of your above ground swimming pool should be tested weekly.
